KYOSUN JUNG: A hand engraved silver and leather clutch bag London 2016 Titled ‘Silver and Leather Clutch’. Rectangular wirework and hand engraved between each wire, with blue leather sides and red leather interior, height 10.8cm, length 24cm, weight total 495gms.
KYOSUN JUNG’S clutch bag is inspired by a study of the Bokjumeoni, a lucky pouch worn especially at New Year with the Korean traditional dress known as Hanbok. The wirework featured on the outside of the bag derives from Jung’s research into contemporary architecture as well as fashion and fabrics. Jung’s methods of manufacture involve wire drawing, making paper maquettes and creating copper and leather models prior to making each piece. For this unique bag she has hand-formed rectangular wires, welding them in place using PUK welding technology before soldering each wire individually. Hand-engraving between each wire further accentuates their linear qualities. Leather (blue cow hide and red goatskin).
