Ladies Hats 1950s. Hats, were a necessity for the well dressed woman. The choice of hat style, color and material was almost limitless. Designers kept getting more avant-garde but traditional styles were the norm. Haute couture designs often included a matching hat and department stores would always feature coordinating hats with their everyday clothing displays. Reference: Fifties Web

Women’s bandeau hat of roses Made by 1953-1963 Close fitting bandeau hats such as this were popular styles to accompany elegant attire, complemented the often short and sleek hairstyles of the period. Bandeau hats were perched atop the head, and secured with a comb, looped wire pin or elastic. This hat features two large pink fabric rose blooms and rose buds plus foliage, giving the hat a romantic and feminine feel. Flowers were a popular addition to hats during the 1950s, similarly featuring heavily on printed fabrics and costume jewellery.
This well provenanced object is an excellent example of the style of hats worn during the 1950s to the early 1960s.

A 1950s ladies hat of black velvet The top side entirely covered with black feathers and trimmed with a black plumed bird, the hat consisting of a firm skull cap labelled ‘Woods of Colwyn Bay’ with a wide shaped brim.
